Vegans have a pretty tough job trying to avoid eating animal or animal products. It’s the foods we eat every day that vegans must be extra careful with. You wouldn’t think fruit would be a problem for vegans but in fact it really can be. For example, the way some varieties of fig are pollinated means every edible fruit of some fig varieties contain at least one dead wasp so I guess by eating a fig, you are eating a dead insect. So, we can say that figs are not suitable for vegans.
Vegans must be careful to see if any preservatives have been used to extend the shelf life of fruit. Bees wax can sometimes be used on an orange skin to protect the skin, which again doesn’t make it suitable for vegans.
